Password Recovery Engine for Word is a password cracker for Microsoft Word. It works through two different mechanisms; the first is the brute-force technique, where you can specify a list of suggested characters, and the program will attempt every possible combination, till the correct password is found. The second mechanism is called the dictionary attack technique, where a list of commonly used passwords are tried one-by-one, till the password is found. The program is enhanced with the ability to resume the password cracking process at anytime, even if it was erroneously aborted. This also includes the ability to stop the process, and to save the current progress as a project, in order to be able to load it later on.
Unfortunately, the speed of either the mentioned techniques, will dramatically depend on your computer speed, and the configuration used. It should take from several seconds for small and easy passwords, to several days for complicated ones.
There are other better competitive programs, such as "Word Password Recovery Master" by "Rixler Software", that can save a lot of time by performing the password finding process on a remote and powerful server, or by removing the password from the Word document.
